A former underground asbestos mine and group of claims located about 1¾ miles E of the highway 60-77 bridge, on the N side of Sawmill Canyon near its confluence with the Salt River, northwestern San Carlos Indian Reservation. Started 1921 by Mr. William M. Malone.
Mineralization is a vein deposit with a linear ore body hosted in the Mescal Limestone. A segment of Mescal Limestone 23 feet thick that lies between diabase sills. Two asbestos zones, 4 and 10 feet above the lower diabase sill. The lower zone is a serpentine band about 9 inches thick with 1½ to 2 inches of harsh chrysotile fiber. The upper serpentine band is about 1 foot below the bottom of the middle member, is 9 to 12 inches thick and contains 1 to 2 inches of fiber.
Some underground work was done. Workings are located 150 feet above the canyon floor. Production was reported as some 3 tons of fiber.
Assay data: About 1.5 to 2 inches of harsh fiber are exposed.
