A gold prospect with underground workings located in the NE¼ sec. 36, T1N, R17W (R16W?), about 1 mile west of the Golden Harp Mine and 1 mile SE of Ocotillo, in the eastern foothills of the Tank Mountains, on federal land. Started in the 1890's by Mr. E. Becher. Reopened 1921. Owned by Messrs. E. Becher & John Collins. NOTE: Alternate coordinates provided: 33.0964N, 113.6475W.
Prevailing rock is banded, silicified biotite schist. It strikes ENE, dips steeply north and, a short distance west, passes beneath tuffs and overlying basalts. Vein consists of the silicified, iron-stained fault breccia that strikes NW-ward and dips 45ºSW. The vein is more than 2 feet wide in places. The quartz is porous and in places exhibits distinctly a pseudomorphic replacement of calcite. It is coated with an abundant manganese oxide residue, probably originally in the calcite.
Workings include an 80 foot deep shaft (1890's); and a newer shaft at 75 feet deep (1922), plus tunnels. Ore yielded $8 a ton in Au (period values).
