Ida Mae Mine
The Milford Mine (Section 23 T47N R29W) opened in 1917 as an underground mine and produced ore until 1933. It was the site of a major mine disaster in 1924 when a collapse flooded most of the workings and killed 41 miners. The mine site is now preserved as a memorial park with trails, displays and remains of some of the mine site workings. The Proterozoic Trommald Formation at the mine was substantially manganifeorus. The rocks there also displayed substantial faulting and drag folding and had minerals such as grunerite, suggesting higher metamorphic grades than elsewhere in the range.
