Two deep pits were dug into fractured amygdaloidal diabasic metabasalts of Keweenawan age (1.1 billion years)in NE Sec 8 T47N R13W. There was also, in 1899, considerable striping of cover and shallow trenching to expose and evaluate the bed rock. According to Grant (1901)some veins cutting the basalts contained sheet copper 3 inches long by 1/8 inch thick, associated with prehnite and quartz.
