The highest mountain of mainland Australia, at 2,228 metres (7,310 ft) above sea level. It is located on the Main Range of the Snowy Mountains in Kosciuszko National Park.

Mount Kosciuszko was formed by geologic uplift. Eroded granite intrusions remain at the summit as large boulders above the more heavily eroded sedimentary rocks.
