Historic gold mine.

The lease was taken out by McMahon and Party when the goldfield was declared in March 1894. Being located at the far south-east of the goldfield, there was little hope of success. They soon came to a rich patch of gold described by eye witnesses at the time as crystallised slightly honeycombed quartz rich in coarse gold, or limestone matrix generously veined and specked with coarse gold. Twelve tons from this find went to the stamp mill achieving 48 ounces of gold. A couple more crushings followed later in the year at lower levels of 16 tons of ore at 16 oz Au and 16.5 tons of ore for 20 oz Au. Three shafts had been sunk.

In 1897, two prospectors Sparrow and Conway were sending the mullock left over to the battery, and it paid for costs only. In the process of digging they re-discovered the reef. The stone was described as studded with gold, and two tons of ore was extracted. The prospectors sank a shaft on the east-west running reef and also claimed that they had discovered another reef 300 feet further east at 12-24 inches wide.
