It is bounded by the NNE–SSW-trending Zhenghe–Dapu fault system and the Fuan–Nanjin faults to the southeast, and is transected by the NW–SE-striking Jianning–Meizhou faults. These structures, together with the Daiyunshan volcanic field, have exerted fundamental control over the intense magmatism and hydrothermal mineralisation in the district. The stratigraphy of the DYY region comprises both basement and cover sequences. The basement consists of Neoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks, including the Dalin Formation (Pt3dl) and the Longbeixi Formation (Pt3l), both composed of schist and gneiss. The overlying cover sequence mainly includes Lower–Middle Jurassic continental clastic rocks of the Lishan (J1l) and Zhangpin (J2z) formations (sandstone, siltstone, and conglomerate). These are overlain by the Upper Jurassic Changling (J3c) Formation (sandstone) and, most extensively, by the volcanic and volcaniclastic rocks of the Nanyuan (J3n) Formation, which consist of rhyolite, tuff, crystal tuff, and volcanic breccia.
Magnatic-hydrothermal fluids migrated upward along regional faults and volcanic structures, forming a large number of epithermal Au and Cu deposits, as well as a smaller number of porphyry Cu–Mo deposits. Magnatism in the DYY region records a complex evolution from the Silurian to the Early Cretaceous, including Silurian quartz diorite and granodiorite, Middle Jurassic granite porphyry, Late Jurassic metallogenic granite porphyry and monzonite porphyry, and post-mineralisation Early Cretaceous granitic to dioritic intrusions (e.g., granite porphyry, melanocratic porphyry, dioritic porphyrite).
