The Serra de Montejunto is a mountain range located in western Portugal, between the municipalities of Alenquer and Cadaval, in the Lisbon District. It is considered the highest natural elevation in this region, reaching approximately 666 meters in altitude.

This mountain range stands out for its natural landscape, with slopes covered in Mediterranean vegetation, including pine trees, cork oaks and shrubland. The area is part of the Protected Landscape of Serra de Montejunto, which helps preserve its biodiversity, including various species of birds and typical regional fauna.

Serra de Montejunto has a geological age that dates mainly to the Jurassic period, approximately 150 to 200 million years ago.

Its rocks are predominantly limestone, formed in ancient shallow marine environments when much of the present-day region of Portugal was submerged. Over time, tectonic movements — associated with the formation of mountain ranges in Europe — caused these rocks to uplift, giving rise to the mountain range as we see it today.

Therefore, although the present-day landscape results from more recent processes (such as erosion and uplift), the materials that make up Serra de Montejunto are very old, dating back to the age of the dinosaurs.

This point is located near the highest area of the range (the geodetic marker and antenna zone) and serves as a good general reference for map or GPS location.
