One ordinary chondrite (H5), ~326 g in weight, was found 15 July 2024 while hiking on an unpaved road. The stone caught the finder's eye because of its distinct color amongst the bright rubble used for the road.
This is the 10th officially recognised meteorite from Austria.

The stone is smooth, with well rounded edges, and entirely covered with rusty, dark-brown-reddish fusion crust.

Petrography: Mallnitz is relatively metal-rich and unbrecciated. The opaque phases are troilite and metals (kamacite, taenite). Chondrules are still well preserved and of varied types, including barred olivine and cryptocrystalline chondrules. The olivines are chemically well homogenized. The pyroxene still show slightly more zonation. Fine-grained matrix (<10 µm) is rare to absent. Accessory phases include merrillite, Cl-apatite, and chromite.
