The Skidmore College North Woods (~150 acres) in Saratoga Springs, New York, is a forested preserve containing widespread chert within Ediacaran (~550 Ma) limestone and dolostone deposited in the Iapetus Ocean. A restricted outcrop within the woods hosts banded agate, which occurs as nodules, lenses, and replacement zones. The agate exhibits several habits, including concentric banding, botryoidal forms, and occasional macrocrystalline quartz in cavities.

Some agate occurs in association with chert, while other specimens are found directly in the host rock. Chert itself is widespread throughout the North Woods, but the agate occurrence appears limited to a single specific outcrop.

The land is owned and managed by Skidmore College, with public access via marked trails; collecting is restricted.
