A collecting site known for quartz crystals and calcite.
The various outcrops are located in pillow lava formations.

"Calcite forms in three main shapes - cubic, three sided pyramidal and unusual square columns that appear twinned.

Calcite pyramids are often covered in drusy quartz clusters and sprinkled with "diamonds". The many shapes of quartz from this area could only be described as weird. Firstly there are the startlingly clear double terminated "diamond" crystals - these are no more than a termination end to end with an absence of m faces or column in between terminations. Sizes are mostly micro up to seven mm but some l0mm crystals have been found. Sceptres to 12mm have been found as well as attractive micros with multiple branching sceptres and reverse sceptres. Then there is the so called square quartz where it is difficult to establish the c axis and the absence of striations don't
help. The next curiosity are the flat top crystals - sometimes sceptred but with no terminations as if they hit a wall but in fact are free-standing. Drusy quartz is common but also very attractive."
