A former gypsum-semiprecious gemstone (unspecified - locality lies E of area marked as "geode beds" on the topo map) occurrence/mine located in the E½ sec. 20, T9S, R20E, SBM, 3.3 km (2.1 miles) SW of Thumb Peak (coordinates of record), along the western margin of the Palo Verde Mountains (between the Palo Verde Mountains and the Black Hills), near the Riverside County line. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 500 meters. Development was attempted at some point. Most material was removed by "rock hounds."

NOTE: USGS MRDS database file #10064331 presents geographic coordinates that place this locality on the southern flank of the Chocolate Mountains, far S of its stated location. Both MRDS files present the same T&R value; therefore, the coordinates presented in file #10236033 are considered the correct values, placing the locality in the stated T&R section and otherwise matching the description of the location (between the Palo Verde Mountains and the Black Hills).

Mineralization is hosted in tuff. The ore body strikes N-S and dips E. Controls for ore emplacement include its deposition in tuff, perlite which outcrop in canyons and saddles. Also found in Quaternary Terraces. Tertiary tuff is intercalated with acidic lava flows. Associated rocks include Pliocene felsic volcanic rock. Local rocks include Plio-Pleistocene and Pliocene loosely consolidated deposits and/or Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
