An Au-Cu-Fe prospect with underground workings located in sec. 1, T2S, R11W, 1 mile W of the Maricopa County line, on BLM-administered land. Owned by Mr. J.M. Owens.
A rolling, dissected pediment extends North from the Gila Bend Mountains exposes a small area of gray silicified schist, intruded by many irregular dikes of granite porphyry. This schist is cut by numerous fractures that strike eastward and dip nearly 90º. At the surface, one of the fracture zones has a width of 15 feet and contains abundant siliceous hematite and limonite together with small veinlets and specks of chrysocolla and malachite. It also supposedly contains a little free gold. An associated rock unit is granite.
Workings include 2 vertical shafts at 100 feet (30.48 meters) deep plus drifts on the 30 and 90 foot levels. No production record.
