Kumbawi (formerly known as Chongam) Au deposit, Chongam district, Chongjin city, DPRK. The Au deposit is developed in two types - skarn developed around the Mesozoic granitoids and quartz-polymetallic veins developed around it. The first geologic description was published by Shimamura S. (Geological Atlas of Chosen No16, Renshin and Seishin sheets. Geol. Sur. Chosen, 1933) and later studied by Molchanov et al. (Tikhookeanskaya geologiya, 1998) The mine is currently abandoned and occasionally mined by the local people without any governmental permission.
