Baker Mine
Per Jim Thompson (personal communication):
It was sunk by the Baker Lead Co. in 1893 to a depth of 437'. Baker Lead Co. or Baker Mine Organization- Shut down, (no date). Its predecessor, the St. Francis Lead Co., owned and operated the Jake Day tract of mineral land near Leadwood for 5 Years. No mill, had its ore separated by the St. Louis Smelting & Refining Co. The same interests that owned the Baker also owned the Boston-Elvins Lead Co. which put down a shaft on what is known as the Jones 40 near Elvins. The Baker property was sold to National (Lead Company) and then sold to St. Joe (Lead Company). Sources - The Lead Belt News (no date), Farmington News (1972)
