Ponte di Veja (Veja's bridge) is the largest natural stone bridge in Europe, it is a majestic natural arch over 50m wide located at a height of 30m from the bed of the stream running below, the bridge has a width of approximately 20m and a thickness of 10m, it is made up of reddish nodular fossiliferous limestones belonging to the Rosso Ammonitico Veronese Fm (140-170 MMY Bajocian-Titonian).

The origin of this natural arch is attributed to the collapse of a huge karst cavity which most likely occurred during the last glaciation, as attested by the dating of pollen found underneath the large boulders beneath the bridge.

The presence of shelters and caves together with the abundancy of chert meant that this site, inhabited since the Lower Paleolithic, became a site of important Mousterian, Gravettian and Epi-Gravettian lithic industries as evidenced by the numerous chert tools found in the various caves and shelters discovered underneath the bridge.

The majority of these paleolithic artifacts are on display at the Natural History Museum of Verona and even at the Archeological and Paleontological Museum of Sant’Anna d’Alfaedo.

This important archeological site is located approximately 27 km north of Verona, approximately 8 km south-east of Sant'Anna d'Alfaedo.
