Abandoned coal mines (1860-1914).

- From 1860 (May 12, the date of the first mining plan elaborated by J. Pezerat) until roughly 1914, the exploitation of the Barrojeiras mines had little or no relevance, with only the coals closer to the surface being exploited. During this time, there was a greater focus on a gallery of the mine near the Golfeiros locality, although these were all minimal works. In fact, the Alcanadas mines only gained significant importance due to the emergence of two factors: the first being the exhaustion of the Bezerra mines (in Porto de Mós), which had coals of better quality, and the second being the outbreak of the First and Second World Wars, which led to a high demand for coals, thus not requiring great quality standards.
