Location reference : A small excavation (4.5 m x 2 m x 3 m) locates this deposit at the foot of Morin Hill, on its NW side, about 2.1 km east of Caribou Lake and 2.2 km west of Rond Lake.
Comment — discovery: The outcropping showing was discovered by prospecting in 1909.
Comment — lithology: The deposit is part of the Thetford Mines ophiolitic complex. Six beds of massive chromite and disseminated chromite occur within a serpentinized dunite with chrysotile veinlets. The fresh color of the dunite is dark to medium green, while the weathered surface is buff rust-brown. The dunite is homogeneous, slightly foliated in places, and has a brecciated facies restricted to a band about two meters thick. The dunite contains a pyroxenite-wherlite.
Comment — mineralization: Marcotte (1980) reports that this deposit apparently contained six beds of massive chromite. The mineralization now observed consists of 1 to 2% disseminated chromite. Chromite grains are at most 1 mm in diameter. The stockpiles contain Hall-textured ore samples (GM 52651).
