A small 362km2 island comprising two land masses North Bruny and South Bruny connected by a narrow sandy isthmus.

Named after Bruni D’Entrecasteaux who, in 1792, established that Bruny was an island. Both the Island, the Channel and a River were named after him.

Coal was mined by convicts at Coal Point.
