Deposit: The keystone claim covers the first outeropping of the silver city branch below the main comstock lode. In the early days it was developed by a tunnel, an inclined shaft with levels to 270 feet, and a 400 ft vertical shaft. The ore developed was too lo W grade for stoping but with the increased price of gold profitable shipments were made in the 1930's with a recorded production through 1939 of $146.44 from 15,074 tons. The dayton mine took over, rehabilited the shaft, and mined pyritic andesite from the crosscuts. By the time the dayton mine closed, 170,000 tons of $10 keystone ore had been mined. Nearly 90% was gold values with over a 90% extraction rate. Silver city branch of the comstock lode; vein and disseminated auriferous pyrite in andesite discovery year: about 1900 or before

Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock

Development: Early ore too low-grade to store, but profitable by the 1930's. Dayton mines took over and rehabilitated the shaft and mined pyritic andesite.
