Deposit type: Placer Au-PGE

Development: District was first worked for gold in 1870's, again in 1890's and through 1920's by various individuals and groups with marginal success, due mainly to a lack of water. The first large-scale operation was in 1929 when nev-mont placer co acquired 4040 acres of placers, built a large reservoir and installed storage tanks and brought in a dragline scraper to mine the gravel. The operation peaked in 1931 with a daily treatment of 140 tpd of gravel. Water shortage forced suspension of work shortly thereafter. By 1934, the district was being mined by "snipers" who worked the gulches with dry washers. In 1984 -1985, worth, inc. Of san diego had a tremendous amount of equipment and some people on the site, but mining was delayed pending development of additional water resources. The property was listed As an active gold mining and milling operation for 19-84, employing 3 persons.
