Deposit: 18 patented mining claims that lie along the contact between the star peak and koipato formations. Quartz veins in the limestone and shale of the star peak formation.,(prida fm). On south side of humboldt canyon, a quartz vein 3 m wide trends n-s, vertical +/- 5 degrees wallrock -is silicified koipato group (rochester rhyolite). Quartz vein -contains pyrite, As does wallrock adjacent to vein. Vein is wi-thin 50 m of contact with lower thin-bedded member of prida fm-. At sample sites 2510 and 2511, there are quartz veins and st-ringers in porphyritic rhyolite of koipato group. Rhyolite is -silified and pyritized. Glassy vein quartz, some pyrite, minor-galena. Tourmaline and muscovite also occur in quartz. Possibl-y some scheelite present. Jasperiod present in prida fm near c-ontact with koipato. Brecciated and stockworked dark grey to b-lack carbonaceous limestone with some Fe oxide staining. The nevada humboldt group consists of 18 patented mining claims that lie along the contact between the star peak and koipato formations. The property is explored by 9 short adits driven on or to intersect quartz veins in the limestone & shale of the star peak fm. Other adits and one shaft are driven on similar quartz veins in the rhyolite of koipato fm. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 2 unpub rept; 3 field observ
Deposit type: Low-sulfide Au-quartz vein
Development: No evidence of valid claims in 1984. Old property dating to 186075. Jeep trail put in, 1950's-1960's. Old stone bu-ilding.
Geology: Veins in the florida canyon area are up to 24 inches wide and contain some sulfides. Both the sedimentary rocks of the star peak formation and the rhyolite of kolpato formation are cut by quartz-calcite veins containing free gold, pyrite, galena & sphalerite. Quartz also occurs As pods and 7quot;blowouts7quot; in florida canyon on the nevada no. 2 claim. Some of the quartz veins in the nevhum and humboldt claims contain needles of tourmaline. A vein south in adit no. 1 contains quartz, calcite, and flourite with sporadic free gold; occuring near the contact with the rhyolite.
Rock formation(s): Rochester Rhyolite (Koipato Group)
Prida (Star Peak Group)
