The Groeve Pruus Karel I is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located southeast of Valkenburg in the northeastern part of the Biebosch slope forest on the northeastern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal. At the site, the plateau plunges steeply for several meters.
About 70 meters to the northwest is the Pruus Karel III quarry,
about 150 meters to the northwest is the Pruus Karel II quarry
and about 150 meters to the southeast are the Sint-Jansbosch quarry I, II, III, IV and V.
In the 18th and 19th centuries, the quarry was mined by block crushers for the extraction of limestone.
The Pruus Karel I Quarry has an area of approximately 27 square meters and a corridor length of approximately four meters.
The quarry is carved into the Gronsveld Limestone, just below the Schiepersberg Horizont.
