Kerkhoffs quarry; Kerkhoff's quarry
The Kerkhofs/Kerkhoffs/Kerkhoff's quarry is a former marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located on the southwest side of Valkenburg on the Daalhemerweg on the western edge of the Heunsberg on the northern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal. Above the quarry entrance lies the Vogelbos forest.
To the southwest are the Vogelbos quarry and the Ackermans quarry with the Steenkolenmijn Valkenburg and MergelRijk, to the northeast are the Fluweelengrot quarry and the Kasteel quarry and to the east are the Wilhelmina quarry and the Hoorensberg quarry.
In the 18th to 20th centuries, the quarry was mined by block breakers for the extraction of marl.
The quarry has an area of approximately 56 square meters and a corridor length of approximately nine meters. Part of the underground quarry may have disappeared due to open-pit mining.
