The Gewand Quarry I, Gewand Quarry Boven or Bovenste Gewand Quarry is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Valkenburg aan de Geul in South Limburg. The underground quarry is located southeast of Valkenburg in the northeastern part of the Biebosch slope forest on the northeastern edge of the Margraten Plateau in the transition to the Geuldal. At the site, the plateau plunges steeply for several meters.
To the northwest lies the Gewandquarry II.
About 450 meters to the northwest is the Hoorensberg quarry,
about 300 meters to the southwest is the Biebosch quarry
and about 400 meters to the southeast is the Pruus Karel II quarry.
The Biebosch flint mines are located approximately 165 meters to the northwest.
The quarry was mined by block crushers for the extraction of limestone blocks.
The Gewand quarry I consists of a single corridor of approximately 40 meters long. The total corridor length is 55 meters and the floor area is approximately 557 square meters.
The manager of the quarry is the D.C. van Schaïk Foundation and the quarry is located on the grounds of Natuurmonumenten. In 2017, the quarry was assessed for safety and approved.
