The het Houbenbergske I quarry is a marl quarry in the Dutch municipality of Eijsden-Margraten. The underground quarry is located approximately 400 meters northwest of Groot Welsden on the Wijlder Reimweg, close to the Sleijpeberg road. The quarry is located in the middle of the Margraten Plateau, on the edge of the Sibbersloot dry valley.
About 150 meters to the south was the Groeve het Houbenbergske II.
About 700 meters to the southeast was the Groot Welsden quarry.
Before 1600, the quarry was already being mined by block breakers.
Until 2010/2011, the quarry was managed by the D.C. van Schaïk Foundation, but due to the new mining law, Het Limburgs Landschap decided to take the management of the quarry (and the Koelebos quarry) back into its own hands.
The medium-sized quarry has a size of 60 by 50 meters. The entrance is on the west side and a shaft is located about 30 meters southeast of it.
Both the entrance to the quarry and the shaft are closed in such a way that bats can enter the quarries.
