Structure: Two Fault Sets Define Local Structure. An Older Set Of Nnw-Striking Normal Faults Are Downthrown On The West. This Fault Set Appears To Be A Primary Control Of Gold Deposition. A Younger Ene-Striking Range Front Fault Set (E.G. Crescent Fault) Offsets The Older Set And Serves To Localize Mineralization At Structural Intersections.

Alteration: Pervasive Cristobalite-Alunite Associated With Smectite Is Thought To Result From Acid Leaching Of The Deposit During The Last Stages Of Hydrothermal Activity. Lesser Silicification And Possible Decalcification Of Host Rocks.

Commodity: Ag:au ratio of 1:1

Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock

Development: In 1985, geologic mapping and limited soil geochemistry nne of north buckhorn pit led to discovery of fossil hot spring system. In august 1985, drill hole d-13 intersected west sinter gold deposit directly beneath a cap of siliceous sinter and silicified clastic rocks.

Geology: Sedimentary host rocks are presumed to correlate to a nearby outcropping lacustrine sequence. At west sinter, these sediments are up to 25 meters thick.

Ore(s): A Breccia Pipe 30-60 Meters In Diameter Is Developed Below The Ore Zone Sub-Parallel To West Sinter Fault. The Pipe Hosts High-Grade Gold Mineralization And Appears To Be A Primary Conduit For Mineralizing Fluids.
