The first reliable information about these former coal mine dates back to 1747, when the coal was still mined via tunnels. The first shafts for mining at greater depths were built in 1851. The "Gegenort" shaft was sunk in 1862.
In 1932, coal mining ceased and the mine was shut down. Some shafts remained open for ventilation for adjacent mines and were later shut down and backfilled.
