A former surface and underground asbestos mine located in secs. 26, 27, 34, & 35, T8N, R15E, on and around Sloan Creek, about 11 air miles SE of Young, on National Forest land. The Sloan Creek group, comprising 18 claims, with the major working consisting of the Cowboy claim, Aileen claim, Last Chance claim, Turkey Track claim, American Beauty claim, and the Blue Jay claim, either adjacent or just within the border of the Fort Apache Indian Reservation. Owned by the Kyle Asbestos Mines of Arizona, of Arizona (1960). Alternate coordinates provided: 33.99278N, 110.78333W.
Mineralization is lens-shaped ore bodies hosted in the Mescal Limestone. The ore zone is 60.96 meters long, with a depth-to-bottom of 18.29 meters.
This property is developed by a narrow bench, several short adits, shallow bulldozer cuts, trenches, and stopes totalling 121.92 meters in length. A small amount of asbestos was produced from 1917 to 1920. Small but consistent amounts of annual production have been reported since 1916.
