Structure: Gentle Dip W. Off Bend Arch 15-30 Ft/Mi
Tectonics: Interior Basin; Deltaic Red Bed Margin
Deposit: The flowerpot shale contains lenticular sandstone with malachite and chalcocite. Some thin dolomites and gypsum nodules also occur. The entire section that contains copper is about 8 ft thick. Smith (1974, p. 62, 64, 69, pl. V) collected sample #1 about 1000 ft SE of mine. Measured sec. #2 was in bluff to w. Sample #3 and measured sec. #3 were at the mine. Smith (1974, pl. Vb) and stroud and others (1970, p. 37, mine 12, swenson ranch). Smith (1974, p. 62) said that the adits were collapsed. Furman (1881, p. 17) mentions this area.
Development: In 1890, 175 tons of ore was mined. Five adits were dug. Exploration was revived in 1945 and again in 1970, according to stroud (1970, p. 37).
Geology: Geology by smith (1974), barnes (1967), and patton (1930). Galloway (1970, p. 113) gives some information. Storm (1929) mapped geology on county map with land grid base. Sample #19 is in the ne-ne sec. 66, bbb&c railroad company survey, with gypsum directly above copper-shale near top of flowerpot. This gypsum may be the kiser gypsum (smith, 1974, p. 71).; hr.age.mv: guadalupian
