Much of the petrified wood ('hazovato' in Malagasy language) sold in Antananarivo, the capital of Madadagascar, originates from this 150 km x 150 km large massif. Especially in the part located in the Ankondromena Commune.
They are found in the Jurassic Isalo II Formation (= Makay Formation).
