Bethersden village is located between the towns of Ashford and Tenterden. The so called 'Bethersden Marble' from the Weald Clay Formation is a limestone with fossilized freshwater gastropods shells. The material takes a polish and it has been used as paving and the building stone of numerous Kent churches.
