Amethystschacht (Amethystengrube bei Schachten), Neualbenreuth, Landkreis Tirschenreuth, Oberpfalz, Bayern, Deutschland


Ancient iron mining field with quartz/amethyst veins, located 1 km south of the small village " Schachten ". The mine entrance (Amethystschacht, i.e. Amethyst shaft) is visible near an information plate.
In the past it was possible to find loose stones with color-zoned amethyst in the farmland around this place. Crystals are very rare here.
During my visit ( February 2022 ) I discovered some drainage structure works underneath the mine location, and it was possible to find some nice amethyst specimens.
