Ama Dablam is an iconic mountain located 15 km SSW of Mount Everest.
The exact altitude is not clear, depending on different sources it ranges between 6,750 and 6,856 m.
It is conformed by two kinds of rocks: dark paragneiss and intruded leucogranite bodies in diverse formats from thick sheets to thin dykes and veins.
Ama Dablam, as its neighbour Everest, are in the Main Central Thrust zone, the most tectonically uplifted still active area on the planet with a complex structure of overlapped thrusts.
