Gypsum layers, belonging to the Messinian (Upper Miocene), exposed during the construction of the "Michele e Pietro Ferrero" Hospital in the 2000s.
Large transparent gypsum crystals (selenite) were found.
Typical of the laminated gypsum layers are fossils of insects (dragonfly larvae of the species Oryctodiplax gypsorum), leaves, and fishes (Aphanius crassicaudus) that lived in brackish and hypersaline lagoons.
