Abandoned quartz quarry.
Steeply folded quartzite deposit near the fjord. In the quarry the width is 20-30 m, while the quarry wall is up to 15 m high, with a total length of ca. 350 m. Analyses from 1952 show: SiO2=97.9%, Al2O3=0.74%, Fe2O3=0.49%, K2O=0.15%. Total production at that time was 135.000 tons. Analysis of an 8 kg sample in 1962 showed 0.87% Al2O3, 0.03 TiO2, 0.003% P2O5. The quarry was operated by Jacob Kjøde from Bergen since 1943. Later, the quarry was taken over by Orkla Kvartsdrift A/S, who supplied the Orkla Metal smelter in Thamshavn. The quarry was abandoned ca. 1965.
