On the south slope of Church Mountain iron oxide minerals occur in argillite. A random sample of the deposit assayed 45% Fe.
Tectonics: Cascade Volcanic Arc
Deposit: Deposit is classified As a fossil placer deposit, for which there is no published model. Host rocks consist of jur-cret calcareous clastic sedimentary rocks. Several beds of the sequence contain fossils, predominantly belemnites and pelecypods. Iron minerals are disseminated in a sandy argillite bed, in part calcareous, about 100 ft thick. Mineralization is not uniform throughout the host bed
