Jimblebar barite
The Jimblebar baryte prospect is located 47 kilometres east southeast of Newman.
Baryte occurs as a 5 metre-wide vein associated with an amphibolite at a location 1.6 kilometres west of the former gold mining camp of Jimblebar. The baryte is highly translucent and devoid of colour except for minor surficial iron staining.
Anglesite, Baryte, Brochantite and Vauquelinite have been identified from here.
While the occurrence contains a significant volume of high-grade baryte, Simpson (1948) considered its remote location would make commercial development unlikely.
The Simpson Mineral Collection of the Western Australian Museum contains specimen MDC 5916A from this location.
Details for this location are also taken from its entry (site code S0024246) in the Western Australian Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety's online database (MINEDEX) of mines, mineral deposits and prospects.
