Plesná is a former village located in the valley of the Plesenský brook on the northwestern edge of the statutory city of Ostrava. Since January 1, 1994, it has been its 23rd city district. Until April 24, 1976, when it became part of the Poruba city district, it was an independent municipality. The district is located about 15 km northwest of the center of Ostrava. It borders the districts of Martinov, Pustkovec, Poruba and Krásné Pole, as well as the villages of Děhylov, Dobroslavice and Velká Polom. The territory of Plesná is composed of the cadastral areas of Stará Plesná and Nová Plesná.
