Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

Early Cretaceous layered gabbroic intrusion. The only alkaline rocks are late aegirine bostonite dikes. The intrusion is 7 x 3.5 km and pear-shaped.
The intrusion is undeformed and unmetamorphosed, and is hosted in Neoproterozoic granitoids and metasedimentary rocks of the Southern Kaoko Zone of the Damara Orogen.

Some interest has been shown in the intrusion by mining companies because of the presence of small amounts of native copper in the gabbroic rocks.

Geochronology

Mineralization age: Early/Lower Cretaceous : 130 Ma to 124 Ma

Important note: This table is based only on rock and mineral ages recorded on mindat.org for this locality and is not necessarily a complete representation of the geochronology, but does give an indication of possible mineralization events relevant to this locality. As more age information is added this table may expand in the future. A break in the table simply indicates a lack of data entered here, not necessarily a break in the geologic sequence. Grey background entries are from different, related, localities.
