The Chapman quarry is the co-type locality for cavansite. The small quarry along Neer Road is 0.5 miles from Highway 30. Only a few truckloads of soft red tuff and gray basalt belonging to the Eocene age Goble Volcanic Series were removed from the quarry. Cavansite was very scarce in the rock, and most of the specimens were used to characterize the mineral. The quarry is now overgrown with vegetation and no longer a collectable site.
