Fantastic and typical Andalucia village (Málaga province) located in the south of Spain and close to the city of Ronda (22 km), 102 km from Málaga (the capital city of the eponymous Málaga province). The site is surrounded by the Mountain of Malaver, an area with ancient mining tradition which became outstanding in the Neolithic age as a consequence of its silex-jasper deposit and open mines hosted inn dolomites-limestones from the Lower Jurassic and Olistolites (Paleogene-Oligocene turbidites, sandstones-limestones) embedded within flysch type sequences.

Across the area there are also ancient mining works related to the iron-copper ores included in the base of the mountain, along the contact between the Triassic Dolomites and the underlying red beds formed by the red Permian-Triassic sequence of sandstones-argilites being cut by basalt-dolerite dykes. An ancient foundry from the early 17th century can be found in the area, paraje Las Alcaurias Altas (private property).

Since February 2023 the village has its own museum called the "Centro de interpretación de la geologia y mineria de Montecorto" where visitors can find a collection of local representative minerals, fossils, and rocks with very interesting pieces from the site.
