An oreshoot of the Rainbow Mine, which is located about 2½ miles East of Chloride, at 5,500 feet of altitude. Started in 1883 and operated intermittently until 1890. Reopened about 1907 and worked in 1911, 1913, 1916, 1920 & 1933. Owned by the Rainbow Mining Co.
Mineralization is the Rainbow vein that strikes NNE-ward and dips vertically. It occurs in silicified gneissoid granite. Several spur veins join the main vein and form oreshoots at the junctions. Ore streaks are persistent and range from 6 inches to 3 feet (15 cm to 1 meter) wide. The Windsail oreshoot, 200 feet North of the main oreshoot contains a streak of quartz and cerussite 15 inches wide by 25 feet long.
Workings include 125 foot deep shaft on the Windsail oreshoot and 1,000 feet of lateral workings. Ore averaged 2 oz. of gold and 20 oz. silver/ton plus 12% lead.
