The Rex No. 2 mine was in Shinarump conglomerate (Triassic) at Temple Mountain on the southeast side of the San Rafael swell in Utah.

Montroseite was collected from the Rex No. 2 Mine, in 1952 by A. Rosenzweig of the Atomic Energy Commission.

Rosenzweig ... sent a few milligrams of nearly pure montroseite from the Rex No. 2 mine to the writers for identification. The sample consisted of cleavage fragments and aggregates of grains larger than those in other samples..."
