Deposit: If the lake kemp limestone was the host rock, this copper could be widespread. Cummins (1891, p. 453; 1893, p. 233) refers to a copper bed and shallow prospect pits seen north of the big wichita river, near the mouth of coffee creek. The lower part of the creek is now under lake kemp. The copper could have been found in the lower arroyo formation of the clear fork group, above the lake kemp limestone, or in the lueders formation below or in the lake kemp limestone.
Development: Several shallow prospect pits were seen in 1890 by cummins.
Geology: Geology by garrett, lloyd, and laskey (1930), and hentz and brown (1987). The lake kemp limestone is the main marker bed, but it is mostly under water. It is partly exposed in the next section to the east, in the SE of sec. 256, t. And n.o. R.r. Co. Survey. This is not the same horizon As that at tabletop mountain; the lake kemp limestone is about 300 ft lower.
