A former small underground Zn-Cu-Pb-Ag mine located in the NW ¼ sec. 23, T.17S., R.12E., about 3 miles SE of the San Xavier Mine between the San Xavier Mine and the Twin Buttes pit. Produced 1967. Owned by the Continental Materials Corp. A short-lived mine with no reported production before or after 1967. There were more gaps in the ore body than expected based on drilling.
Mineralization is irregular replacement lenses of zinc and minor copper and lead in fractured Paleozoic limestone near the bottom of the San Xavier thrust sheet. Replacement is similar to that in the nearby San Xavier Mine, porphyry-related mineralization. An ore shoot 17 to 20 feet thick slopes toward the south, under 750 feet of overburden. Pods and stringers of ore occur in a thrust plate zone. Ore control was the base of the San Xavier thrust sheet, in fractured rock. Alteration did not include any significant oxidation. An associated rock unit is diorite.
Workings include a 1,000 foot deep shaft operation. Produced some 69,000 tons of ore, averaging about 4% Zn, 0.5 oz. Ag/T and minor Cu and Pb, in 1967.
