A former small underground Cu-Ag-Au-W-U mine located in East-central sec. 17, T. 11 S., R.16E. Operated 1937-1948. Owned at times, or in part, by the Phelps Dodge Corp.; Catalina Consolidated Copper Co.; Control Mines, Inc.; Control Mines Co.; the Arizona Copper Mines, Inc.; and Continental Materials, Inc.
Mineralization is sulfides and spotty, disseminated scheelite associated with irregular skarn zones of pyrometamorphic replacements in structurally deformed and marbleized Paleozoic limestone along the contact with intrusive Laramide quartz diorite. The ore zone is 48.77 meters long, 42.67 meters wide and 3.05 meters thick. Cross-cutting lamprophyre and alaskite dikes. The Scheelite is in tactite, in a contact zone that contains copper ore bodies.
Workings include adit and shaft operations. Some 115,000 tons of ore averaging about 2% Cu, 0.6 oz. Ag/T and minor Au, were produced, mainly from 1937-1948. One ton of 11% WO3 ore was produced in the 1940's.
