By 1902, the Rock Island Cement and Plaster Company had a small testing plant at Ancho with a larger processing plant under construction to process the gypsum that was quarried from 10 to 20 foot thick gypsum beds of the Permian San Andres Formation. This property was sold to Western Clay and Gypsum Products Company in 1911. Idle from 1913 to 1915, it was sold in 1916 to Ancho Brick Company, which closed it permanently in 1917.
