A former small surface and underground Mn-Cu-Zn mine located in the SW ¼ sec. 13, T.16S., R.7E., 2½ miles northwest of the Indian hamlet of Pantak, NW of the Coyote Mountains. Discovered by A.M. Herreras in 1938. First produced 1954, until 1956 (?). Owned by the Drake Mining Co.

Mineralization is numerous fractures containing narrow, discontinuous, irregular, high-grade veinlets of hard manganese oxides, with some soft wad in between, along a wide fault zone cutting Tertiary rhyolitic volcanics. Copper-zinc mineralization is in the fracture zone to the North of the manganese outcrops. Ore has a low Fe content. Probably sizeable pods of manganese ore were mined from the intersection of the N80E fault and the NW fracture zone. The ore body is 121.92 meters long and strikes N50-60W, dipping steeply NE.


Local structures include a NW-trending fracture zone.

Workings to a depth of 12.19 meters and 33.53 meters long overall, 9.14 meters wide overall, include mostly open cuts and pits; a few shafts are found. Some 100 tons of ore were concentrated to 17.5 long tons of 43.5% Mn, in a jig plant at Tucson, were produced in 1954-1955 and trucked to the Deming, NM purchasing depot.
