A former small surface Mn mine located in the SE ¼ sec. 14, T.16S., R.7E., about 2.¾ miles NW of the Indian hamlet of Pantak; N-NW of the Coyote Mountains. Discovered 1940 by Mr. George M. Evans and associates. First produced 1955. Owned by the Drake Mining Co.

Mineralization is discontinuous, irregular, narrow stringers of hard manganese oxides on fractures, and soft wad between fractures, along a fault zone cutting Tertiary rhyolitic volcanics. The ore body is 137.16 meters long and 91.44 meters wide, strikes N50-60W and dips vertically to steep NE.

Probably on the same fracture zone as the Jean E group. Two parallel fracture zones 300 feet apart, containing discontinuous, narrow stringers of hard manganese oxides in most fracture planes, which show gradual replacement outward from the walls and incomplete replacement of softer wad manganese in shattered areas between fractures.
The fracture zone probably extends to the east where it is covered by alluvium; similarity of minerals and the trend of fractures suggest that the Black Hawk and the Jean E are on the same fracture zone.
Local structures incude a NW-trending fracture zone.

Workings include at least 15 pits and cuts; a few pits were 10 to 18 feet deep. Some 46 long tons of sorted 20% Mn ore were shipped in 1955 and was trucked to the Deming purchasing depot.
